- New research eliminates need for Dark Matter - New research by University of Victoria physicists has suggested that dark matter may not be necessary to explain the gravitational behavior of the universe. Simply applying more exact relativity equations where previously only Netwonian models were used has eliminated one of the biggest reasons for the theory of dark matter.

- Stanford's Stanley wins DARPA Grand Challenge - Stanford University students were the winners of this years fully-autonomous off-road vehicle race, sponsored by the Department of Defense. Their vehicle travelled 132 miles across the desert under robot control.
